In 1987, these individuals conducted a focus group activity in the nursing\u00a0department at Oakwood College (now Oakwood University).\u00a0There was resounding consensus among the forty\u00a0plus nurses at that meeting that an organization be established. Temporary officers were selected including a\u00a0bylaws committee. In 1988, at Oakwood College, the individuals present adopted bylaws and elected officers.<\/p>\n ABAN<\/strong> was formally organized and the journey began. Historically, scores of nurses have joined and been\u00a0involved from the various regional conferences and some international countries.
