Purpose
The purpose of ABAN is to participate in and assist with activities that promote the growth of God’s kingdom.
This purpose will be accomplished by:
- Fostering excellence in Christ-centered nursing education.
- Facilitating professional development among black SDA nurses.
- Ministering to mankind through the use of health initiatives with a whole-person focus.
- Using the health message as an entering wedge for sharing the gospel.

WHO WE ARE
Kathleen Woodfork-Bradley and Charlie Jo Morgan, as co-founders of ABAN, laid the foundation for the beginning of this organization. In 1987, these individuals conducted a focus group activity in the nursing department at Oakwood College (now Oakwood University). There was resounding consensus among the forty plus nurses at that meeting that an organization be established. Temporary officers were selected including a bylaws committee. In 1988, at Oakwood College, the individuals present adopted bylaws and elected officers.
ABAN was formally organized and the journey began. Historically, scores of nurses have joined and been involved from the various regional conferences and some international countries. We have had Directors @ Large and Area Coordinators who have assisted in coordinating and communicating ABAN activities in their conference areas for ABAN chapter fellowship and development.
Since its inception, the ABAN Associating has been having their Annual CEU educational conference and business meeting on the campus o Oakwood University in Huntsville, Al during their annual Alumni Weekend(Easter weekend). We have found that even though some nurses have not graduated from that school it is a good time to fellowship with nurses from all schools and to see first-hand how we can strengthen the School of Nursing for Oakwood University. We look forward to seeing All nurses, active , retired, nurses, student nurses, post graduate student nurses and those interested in the nursing field.
