Does ABAN have any  similarity to NBNA?  Yes,  when the American Nursing Association (ANA) was not effective in serving health needs of blacks/ and other minorities and at times nurses would not focus or serve in minority needed areas, then the National Black Nurses Association(NBNA) was formed. 

Is ABAN  open to any very interested nurse or enrolled nursing student?………..YES 

Is ABAN  open to any slightly interested nurse or enrolled nursing student. .. .. .. YES 

Can an ABAN member also belong to any other nursing or health organization? YES 

Can ABAN work in conjunction with church Life Style/Health Ministries or Nurse Corps.?  YES 

Can ABAN assist with local, regional or conference special events.? …………. YES 

Can ABAN  assist in recruiting students in nursing /other health fields?. ………. YES 

Can ABAN  assist with crucial support to OAKWOOD Univ. nursing program?. ……YES 

Can ABAN  assist with mentoring others while enrolled in any nursing prog?. .. .. . YES

Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Donations

1. Do I have to be an ABAN member to donate money for scholarships?  = NO
2. Do I have to be a Nurse to donate money to ABAN  for scholarships?  = NO
3. If I am a graduate of the Oakwood School of Nursing Program, am I encouraged to join ABAN as a member and/or donate money for scholarships? =  YES
4. If I am a past member of ABAN, may I STILL rejoin ABAN and pay dues and/or donate money  for nursing scholarships?  = YES 
5. If I am not actively nursing or a retired nurse may I join ABAN and/or donate money for nursing scholarships?  = YES
6. If I  am a graduate of Oakwood University, but ‘NOT’ the School of Nursing, can I still donate money for nursing scholarships? = YES
7. If I am a “friend” of a nurse or a friend of an Oakwood graduate or attendee, can I still donate money for nursing scholarships/ = YES
8. If I am not a Seventh-day Adventist, may I still donate money for nursing scholarships? = YES
9. If I am not a black or of the Afro -American race, my I still donate money for nursing scholarships? = YES
10. Am I limited to monetary donations to the Oakwood University School of Nursing; Can I contribute other essential equipment/supplies? = YES
